I love to discover – and coming from a background in Graphic Arts and Design, I believe London is the perfect place to discover the most creative opportunities. Joining Futureheads has given me the chance to talk to creatives and learn more about the wonderful community of digital arts and design. So, I'm starting 2017 with a list of creative events that I'd like to go to.

This broad list of events will hopefully make 2017 an inspiring year!

Website: Glug events

When: All Year Round

This will be Glug’s 10th year of hosting fantastic creative events all over the world. For the sold out February event in London, they’re teaming up with Deliveroo’s design team and even looking to hire people on the night! Keep an eye out for any last minute tickets for the February event, as well as announcements for future events – you can expect insightful talks on topics from digital and UI/UX through to Branding and emerging tech, as well as having the chance to mingle with plenty of creative and digital minds.

Design Club

Website: Design Club

When: Every other month, all year

Design Club gives you the chance to mingle with designers of all disciplines and experience, have some drinks and hear what the leaders in our field have to say about their work and the industry. Previous speakers have been from the likes of Moving Brands, Deliveroo and Monzo, and with the next event to be announced soon, we would advise joining the mailing list to get first dibs on tickets.

The VFX Festival

Website: The VFX Festival

When: 7th-9th February

Back again for 2017, this two-day festival includes industry talks and showcases from some really exciting sectors – Animation, Games, Motion Graphic and VFX. It’s a great chance to listen to what the experts have to say about the industry, whilst networking with other creatives in your field.

Website: Reasons

When: 17th February

London is an annual event aimed at all types of creatives – from animators, filmmakers and illustrators to coders and web designers. The line-up of speakers include some of the best digital creatives in the field and it’s a fantastic opportunity to network, learn and get inspired.

Fear and Love: Reactions to a Complex World (at the Design Museum)

Website: Fear and Love

When: Ends 23rd April

This exhibition at the Design Museum is showcasing 11 new installations from “some of the most innovative and thought-provoking designers and architects working today”. The works look really interesting and explore an array of present topics – from dating apps and robots to 3D printing. This is definitely not one to miss.

D&AD Festival

D&AD Festival

Website: D&AD Festival

When: April 25th-27th

D&AD Festival is back again this April, featuring talks from global leaders and an exhibition boasting over 20,000 pieces of work. You can even expect tours and workshops from brilliant design studios and agencies. Again, there’s plenty of opportunity to meet other creative minds, including fresh talent from D&AD’S New Blood and if you fancy yourself a bit of a night owl, why not join in on the evening events and parties. Futureheads will also be hosting a CV/Portfolio clinic at the festival. Follow us on Twitter for updates!

VR World

Website: VR World

When: 16th-17th May

This free event gives you the chance to listen to the world’s leaders in Augmented, Mixed and Virtual reality. You’ll listen to thought-provoking discussions surrounding the possibilities of VR and the future of technology, accompanied by intriguing case studies. With over 150 speakers and an interactive exhibition, there’s plenty opportunity to engage with start-ups and established industry leaders.

New Designers (at the Business Design centre)

Website: New Designers

When: 6th-8th July

New Designers gives 3,000 graduates and emerging designers the chance to show off their talent and innovative new ideas all in one place. Part 2 sounds particularly interesting to me – showcasing a variety of creative disciplines from Product & Industrial Design, to Graphic Design, Motion and Digital Arts. It’s the perfect event if you want to see what the newest generation of designers have up their sleeves.

So there you have it – some great events coming your way over the next few months. If you’re particularly excited about any upcoming events this year, just let me know at shelby@wearefutureheads.co.uk and maybe I’ll see you there!
