The situation

We partnered with global marketing and technology agency Publicis Digitas as they focused on growing their creative team to enable them to deliver multiple large projects for several key accounts. The agency needed to make a number of senior design hires across all levels from midweight to Director in UX and Visual Design. They had been struggling to attract senior permanent candidates, due to a booming freelance market and their new office location in White City.

In addition, the Digitas talent team had recently lost their inhouse design recruiter. They needed to access high-calibre permanent design talent and were in need of a recruitment partner who could help them make these key hires quickly. They also needed some support in improving their employer brand and interviewing process, to ensure a strong candidate experience that will help them build an effective talent pipeline for the future.

Our goals were to:

  • Make a number of key hires across UX and Visual Design.
  • Help Digitas stand out in a competitive market, and build a pipeline of strong permanent candidates.
  • Refine and educate hiring managers on the interview process to ensure a consistent, effective experience.

Our approach

We placed two talent partners covering UX and Visual Design respectively supported by an Account Director. We met with all key stakeholders to understand the team structure, projects and hiring profiles, as well as current challenges. We sat in a number of interviews to understand their current process, and how the hiring managers were pitching the agency. These sessions highlighted that the business could benefit from some changes to their recruitment process, so we helped them to shorten the interview process and gave them some tools to better assess the right profile.

We managed the recruitment process from start to finish, including managing diaries and scheduling all interviews. We also developed a reporting system and provided weekly updates to track activity and candidate pipeline. Throughout the engagement, we worked closely with key hiring managers, offering consultancy around specific candidates, approaches and market insights.

Our results

  • We made five hires, including a UX Director.
  • We improved the design interview process by streamlining stages and interview training.
  • We were appointed a retained search partner for a Chief Experience Officer.
