I’m working with a super interesting start-up with a positive impact who are looking to make their first two in-house product design hires to work end-to-end on their SaaS style web product.

They’re on a mission to change the way childcare is delivered. In a post pandemic world where flexibility is key for parents, they aim to be the trusted network of childcare for parents that need to meet the demands of our modern world, and adapt post covid as the world keeps changing.

Their mission is bold and ambitious, and it’s one that’s shared by the whole team – to be brave, build fast and be brilliant. To achieve this, they’ve brought together a top team of product folk, engineers and industry experts to help revolutionise the way parents engage with the childcare world and now looking for their superstar Product Designers.

In addition to being mentored by a brilliant and well-respected design director, you’ll also get to work closely with a talented team across research, product, engineering as well as operations.


Purpose Of Role

  • Lead design across the end to end experience; connecting that to a broader service vision
  • Coordinate Experience Design work across Product Design, Service Design, and User Research as well as help identify and build new features
  • Be a true peer to the Product and Engineering Leads – supportive yet challenging and using your emotional intelligence to foster excellent team – work and decision making
  • Balance user value versus effort and to ensure the roadmap is informed and validated by research and evidence
  • Facilitate cross-discipline sessions as part of early product definition – likely pulling from a toolbox of lean UX approaches, design sprint and prototyping methods
  • Conduct user research to shape strategic design and new feature build, as well as user testing
  • Create user journey and service maps illustrating user needs, pain points, and business opportunities as we evolve our products into new verticals
  • Guide the team when defining processes and approaches for tackling design or research  problems
  • Oversee the work of more junior design team members with in the design team ensuring a high standard of quality
  • Ensure products follow accessibility standards and create a standard by encouraging  contribution to their design system guidelines
  • Be an evangelist for user-centric approaches, and actively participate in the design  community


Key Skills Required

  • Ability to make others better through work reviews and critiques, thorough documentation, guidance, teaching and mentoring
  • Expertise in several core design skills, with a stronger expertise across UX core skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills-ability to communicate design effectively, regardless of the audience; receiving and giving constructive feedback; and leading workshops as a design facilitator when required
  • Proven ability to collaborate successfully with cross – functional peers and teams (Engineering, Marketing, Product) to develop concepts and products
  • A keen eye for detail, but ability to rapidly solve problems using everything from a basic sketch to high-fidelity prototypes


Qualifications and Experience – Essential

  • Min 3 years of experience as a product designer in a commercial environment working end-to-end
  • Deep understanding of interaction design, communication design and user-centered methods
  • Experience working in cross functional Agile teams to build and iterate great products


Qualifications And Experience – Desirable

  • Experience working in market place environments and / or childcare industry
  • Experience designing for complex functional web and desktop products


Their Promise

  • Base Salary £55 – £75,000 based on experience
